Can we really make things ‘disappear’?

Pentagon based physicists have been working on how to mask entire events through distorting light, so that one day soldiers can conduct their operations in complete secrecy.
The researchers have managed to hide an event for 40 picoseconds (which is basically a trillionth of a second). This is quite literally ground breaking stuff!
This is the first time that scientists have been able to be successful in masking an event, although researchers have make remarkable efforts in cloaking objects. Even more amazing, the researchers at the University of Texas, Dallas; last year created the illusion to make objects vanish. And in 2010, physicists at the University of St. Andrews (yes, where William and Catherine met) made leaps and bounds towards using meta-materials to trick the human eye into not seeing what is right in front of them.
